On October 9, Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University, in partnership with PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) and relevant government agencies, has inaugurated a new sea turtle hatchery at the Sampao Kwarm community in Chanthabury province. This initiative aims to foster marine conservation and promote sustainable coastal development.
Asst. Prof. Apaporn Boonme, Ph.D. Assistant to the President of RBRU, along with university administrators and the Faculty of Service Learning, presided over the opening ceremony of the hatchery. The establishment of this center is a result of a collaborative effort between RBRU, PTTEP, the first Marine and Coastal Resources Department (Rayong), the 9th Forest Management Division (Chonburi), Krajae Sub-district Municipality, and the Sampao Kwarm community.
Ms. Susama Pitakuladilok, Assistant Vice President for Sustainability and Stakeholder Management at PTTEP, delivered the opening remarks. The hatchery is part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on marine conservation, known as "Ocean for Life," which spans from 2020 to 2030. The MoU encompasses six key projects: marine waste management, mangrove reforestation, aquaculture development, marine protected area establishment, marine habitat enhancement, and research on ocean health and biodiversity monitoring.
RBRU has been actively engaged in community development in Sampao Kwarm, which is one of the university's service learning areas. Over the years, the university has implemented various projects such as Gen A Community Service, Youth Savings for Community Development, Blue Crab Bank, and the upcycling of waste materials. Additionally, RBRU has been involved in mangrove reforestation efforts to restore coastal ecosystems.
